Females Getting Gravid
« on: January 30, 2009, 03:50:22 PM »
I've notice my female koi showing signs of filling up with eggs already this year.

Poor gals - I have a bunch of males, but only two females that I can tell.  They're gonna have an exhausting go of it, come spawning time.

Have a few more months to wait to even see mine yet.  Hopefully your fellas will be gentle and no injuries will occur to the fish or the plants.

I have a few fish in this condition now.  The weird thing is that the femmes are chasing everyone else, gal or guy!  I guess they're making up for weeks to come!

Don't forget to cover your ponds, or create an overhang, or some other device to prevent the fish from jumping out, when they get into their spawning frenzy.

I lost three fish last spring, at spawning time.  :(
