I'm told that you folks in sunny California that over paid your state taxes will not be getting a refund this year but instead issued an IOU. True? If so how many people in your state would be changing their withholding so that does not happen again.

Frogman - That is where I am at right now. The other idea is to forward those IOU's as payment of our property taxes.
I was particularly irked by this as I had just managed to balance my taxes enough to where what I owed the Feds was covered by the State refund. Not so much this year.

They get away with it because their jobs are not threatened.  Virtually a one party system.

Not true.  The State Controller will hold onto the refund for 30 days after they received the filing before mailing out the checks.

CA constitution requires a 2/3 vote by the legislature in increase taxes.   They managed to get 1 Republican in the state senate to cave, thus we will be paying more......and getting less.....  The unions have a strangle-hold on most of our legislators and our legislators are more interested in getting re-elected than in serving all the people....   I was a union member my entire career and saw how PACs buy off legislators.

One of the major counties around Cincinnati has had to lay off over 150 of their deputies and corrections officials and the Sheriff has tried his best to find funding but no luck.
These are people who has worked for some 30 years which is a shame..

Our county hasn't been hurt yet because we get alot of money from the local gambling boats to help but they need to learn how to budget for hard times such as cut back and the expensive vehicles that they spend on the cops to drive, which would help alot financially.
For one why do our town cops need Durangos ... gas guzzler.

Glad you tax payers in CA will be receiving your tax check within a reasonable time.. IOU's suck.
