Braeden Bowling + new pix

Here's a picture that Dawn took of Braeden using the Wii. He is not able to handle most of the games but the rest of the family sure can and does. But he doesn't really care if he is bowling right or running the race cars correctly. It gives him something to do and laugh about. He looks pretty normal in this picture but I'm sure Dawn has positioned all the tubes and stuff so it doesn't show. There is a little multicolored fabric on the left side of the picture on the floor. It is a patchwork fabric tube that covers the plastic tubes. He has a small IV cart that has three pumps but I don't know what they all do. One is for nutrition and one is for pain meds.

 We were there last night and he seemed pretty good considering. He was propped on the sectional couch. He's an ornery little cuss, yelled at Eliana because she sat on the couch where his mom had been sitting. When he yelled a second time at her to move, I kind of said his name in a reprimanding tone. HE hushed right away and his eyes dropped and you could tell he knew he had been naughty.  Then later Kevin was serving ice cream cake and Braeden YELLED that he wanted  his in a cup. Kevin said he wasn't serving it in cups. Braeden then YELLED again, "I WANT MINE IN A CUP." Kevin again said he already had his cake in a bowl. Braeden YELLED again, "I WANT MINE IN A CUP!!!! :!:  :!: " Kevin just said, "Well I guess you won't get any then." I was surprised. But Kevin did give him a few tastes of his. In the first place, Braeden doesn't eat much of anything at all so it would have just been wasted if he had given it to him. Evidently he isn't really hungry seeing his nutrition needs are being met by the IV stuff.

 I remember my dad was that way. When they finally took the wires off his teeth, he would look at the food that came on the tray and ask, "Do I have to eat ALLLLL of that?"  Eventually his appetite returned.

Thanks for the pic, Esther.

It's got to be hard, but I think his dad is right in maintaining discipline with the boy, even while he is so sick.  Children need rules, and the siblings need to see that everyone is treated the same.

Esther, great pic of Braeden.  He was determined to hit the strike there.  @O@  I'm glad to hear that he is doing OK given the circumstances.  O0  Been thinking of you and the big guy.

Actually, reading your post about Braedon, he sounds pretty normal for his age and interaction with siblings/dad!!!  At least that's how it goes around here with granddaughters here a lot.  THey squabble and jockey for position all the time (with their mom that is).  She caves more than I do! lol   He's adorable!  o(:-)

Such a sweet paring of pictures.  Braeden's intensity in the first photo is so endearing and the second photo is just so beautiful - uncomplicated love.  Braeden looks so well in spite of all he has endured.  And if he's still spunky enough to throw a tantrum - well good on him!  Even a gentle reprimand can be reassuring for a sick child, it lets him know that his world still has order.

I just talked to Dawn tonight and told her that I was amazed at how healthy Braeden seemed to be. There were times in the hospital that I was surprised he made the night. A lot of the out of wackness (a new word) was caused by the pain killers that was being used. Eventually they injected something that actually killed the nerves that were being pinched. Since then, the pain control has been a lot better and he is more normal. She said his oxygen levels, heart, kidney, all seemed to be functioning the way they should. Pete asked me what is threatening his life then? As I understand it, the tumor is growing swiftly and has encircled his remaining kidney. Of course when that is pinched off, he won't survive. Oddly enough, his hair is growing back and he is getting taller.

Soon there is a photographer going to come to their house and do a family picture. This person does volunteer work for Make a Wish.

Tuesday he is going to their local fire department. He has always been fascinated by fire trucks, motorcycles (mo do sykos), and race cars.
