believe that the item is in its best condition? and can be presented
as a brithday gift? i will pay $1600 and please note that am shipping

Whaaa?? Were you asking $1600 for it? If he's paying by Paypal, could there be a stop or problem?? Guess the only thing I see is that he wants it shipped to some other country. But I still don't see what's wrong.

This happened to a friend of mine once, he was selling a classic car and some guy contacted him and it was a similar arrangement: he wanted to give my friend an extra $1500 to ship the car, and asked my friend to put the remaining balance in the glovebox by way of a money order/cashier's check.

The guy had his partner drop off the cashier's check for over $8000, more than my friend asked for the car, and it was drawn on B of A. So my friend told the guy he would arrange the shipment as requested and went to the bank and the cc was counterfeit.

So...had my friend done this, he would have cashed the check, used the balance to ship the car, gotten a cashier's check for the difference and put it in the box and shipped the car. When the check turned out phony, he'd be out his car, the money he paid to ship it and the balance in the glove box on it's way to South Africa.

I'm not sure what you were selling, Jerry, but it sounds like a scam to me!

Yesterday and today I got a call from someone who purported to be Experian.
They were asking about American Ponders. Both calls were very difficult to understand.
The first one hung up when I asked him to email me!

Today it was a female, also difficult to understand. I had my wife speak to her
My wife said.."I am not giving you that information!.

if it were Experian id have thought they would have written.

Yes Karen it's new in the box. I took it out looked at it, never plugged it in or anything.
Why? I was not too Bright. I figured when one computer won't connect (Time Warner) I'd have a back up. Wrong! When the cable is down it is for all !
Then I figured it might be nice to take on a set. It is 59.00 a month for the phone card.
I might use it once every 2 or 3 months. Not practical at all.

If you are interested do LOOK IT UP. I am no techie and want you to be sure what you are buying.

PS, edit: Please don't hold your thingie for me. If you get the opportunity, sell it! We are just in "homework" mode. We want to buy something, but don't know "what". I don't want you to hold something for me if we're not really sure, which we aren't. We need to do the research and make sure we get what we need... which is something we don't know yet...

Experian is one of three credit reporting agencies. But I don't see why they would be calling Jerry about American Ponders.

Now I still don't see why that guy putting money in Paypal could be a problem. The only way I've ever used Paypal was to deposit to a seller's account from my checking or from a credit card and withdraw when someone else deposited when I was the seller. I thought that the money had to come from a secure account and was verified before credit was given. I think I am missing something here about the danger in this situation.

Also I don't see why his grammar or spelling is a problem. Not everyone who is a US citizen knows how to spell correctly or diagram a sentence. Not everyone uses or has "spell check".

I'm not saying you should trust him but just throwing up questions that I have.

Jerry, I strongly advise you not to ship this laptop to a stranger. They are very high fraud online. PayPal will take the money back from you if the scammer complains or uses a stolen account.

Sell it for cash in person or to a forum member but don't fall for this scammer who is emailing you.

I see sellers ripped off on eBay on laptops every day.
