Picking a head shot out of 100s is tough. My cousin said, "Id never buy a car from that guy!" what she is not aware of is that, that look can be good.  if i had my way id remove all the wrinkles! Wrinkles however is what i am selling.  I am not going to be cast as a leading man.
Kathy Joosten said "pick 10, go to a mall and ask at random..."Which picture talks to you?"
The one with the most picks is the one to use.  I did a few with a Mafia look.  They are lousy.
Miss Joosten won an Emmy and is a senior,  also new to the biz.  So there is hope
How about rating a few for me?  a scale of 1 to 5 ,being best.
Here goes......... 3 for now lest you get bored to death.
Oh yeah, my wife said if a guy came up to her at the mall with such a request, she would keep walking

You know that a head shot is more than just a head shot. I like Shot one more than the rest. I like it more than 2 becuase you are given more of a centered appearance. Although these 2 are the same pose you are more centered in shot 1.( you are not selling carpentry so center yourself) Shot 3 brings out your wrinkles more. I saw you were selling wrinkles but you also need to sell the fact you are a fit man of your age and shot one shows your guns off. You can still see your wrinkles a bit but your figure looks better in the top pick. I think it shows you are ready for action of any kind. I think the shot makes you a  younger 80 year old from this shot. Not because of the wrinkles but because of the rest of your young body showing through.

Whew do not take any of that wrong and I do love the gals and the gals only. Break a leg you killer you.

I'm with you dad. more to follow. I am open to the critiques.  If critiqes are difficult to take, this is the wrong business!  None of it is personal
I have a still from a 1938 Warner Bros. film called "Black Fury:  starring Paul Muni.  Almost All I meet in the business never heard of him.  My Father  operates an elevator in the flick. The film is about coal miners.  A friend found it on E-Bay for 12.00  She recognized my Father at once.  Same kisser she said.

I don't like the serious ones at all but then that's me. Don't like the mafia look. Of the second two I like the first one best as I like the smile and the body language "leaning ahead" a bit, interested, interesting person.

I bet that is hard to do, both have the photos taken and then trying to choose. Most people don't like their looks and hate being photographed.

Definately the third one.  A lot more warmth and personality and approachability.

The first two don't convey much character.  And in No. 2, the eyes look weird.

What are these shots to be used for?  Are you trying for a particular role, or just sending your pic to some movie people?

We submit electronicaly.  If there is anything Casting Directors hate it's not looking like your photo.
one also brings an 8x10 and resume to auditions

The third, but you appear to be squinting in the first set compared to the second set.

The photog shot fast bang, bang, bang. I didn't realize at first, so many photos are close to the same pose.
Your comments are good.  o(:-)I may not need a Mall visit.
I have met girls at auditions who looked nothing like their head shot. The head shot was very glamorous, they were not.  I was polite and just said very nice

Of these last two, I like the one in the grey sweater.  Just looks like a nice guy!  Something about that brown suit w/ blue shirt, and the downward tilt of the head, I don't like that one.

Hi Jerry,

I don't want to pick these apart and this might come across as a bit strong, but I don't like any of them as you look as though you are squinting in all of them as though it was too sunny during the photo's. Your eyes should look like they are smiling even if your mouth is not and none of these have that glint in the eye I would want to see for a head shot. Hopefully you have more we can see. I know you were going for a specific look but I would prefer to see a head shot that captures your soul and I think I know you well. None of these do anything special for you in my honest opinion. Please do not take this as a negative, I just want to be as honest as possible and try to guide you toward something that a casting director would remember...

Cheers,
Sean

Of the first group I like the third, 0062. It is closer and that slightly sideways glance shows a lot of character. It looks like you could fit into many roles from the kindly, wise grandfather type to a hardened decision maker. The lines in a mans face denote wisdom of ages that he has gathered along the way.

There are more, a lot! I an culling them. No Sean not to worry, that is what I need to know.  It is how it strikes you!  As you see disagreement is common.  That's why it is so hard to pick.

Im not pleased either. at least not yet.

I like the sweater pictures much better more natural personal looking, the ones with the suit makes me think of an old TV newscaster, nothing wrong with old newscasters but I just like the others better, #37 you have such a nice warm smile in.  Do you think you are squinting or when you smile do your eyes just naturaly squint....mine do and always have I think as my cheek bones are higher and my eyes are not real round to begin with,  and if I try not to I look very unnatural.

My choices are 0089 (with just a hint of a smile), 0149, 0145, and 0049.   o(:-)  My whole face changes when I smile and I end up looking like a chipmunk.  But that's who I am!!  lol

Good luck Jerry!

I like 145 best of all I think. But the smile on 49 is nice. I just think the shirt is too dark and makes too much of a contrast to your skin color. And also had concerns about what appears to be squinty eyes in the gray sweater one. I think if I were looking at a "head shot" with the person dressed "up", I could easily see him dressed down but I'm not so sure about the other way around. But with these professionals, they maybe couldn't care less what you wear for the pix. I suspect they know at a glance what they are looking for and it isn't what the person is wearing. Something hits them just right and TADA, you have the job.

The thing that strikes me in the headshots are all the poses where your head tilts downward.  It seems sort of sinister.  So, if that's the part, good - otherwise it can be kind of off-putting.  And it's totally funny someone else noticed the TV news anchor thing.  Too funny.  My thought exactly.  You're a handsome man, and I just don't think you should be saying 'muahahaha' with your headshot  ;)

James is talented and renowned, so I put my self in his hands.
I kinda like these two, but as I said I can. be objective.

In that shot - you look like you would be fun to talk to.

I don't like the caramel coat set at all - the tie is way awful. Your photog may have other talents, but costuming is not one of them.
