The BOG
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:41:08 PM »
well here is my bog. I filled it with rock today and now it is running. Now all I need to do is get some plants to go with it. I did put one of my lotus in there but I left it in the pot.

Sweet. This weekend I am building a stream/bog area with my extra liner that I built my pond with. You know that extra  triangle on a round pond. I am excited because I already have all the parts, liner, rocks, dirt. I just have to do the labor. I plan to have 3 small bog areas on the way down the stream. I will take before during and after pics. I have already ordered some plants just waiting for them to arrive.

Your bog area is sweet. I like your design. I am going stream bog with mine though. This is only because I have a pond with 3 gravel/sand filters on the main pond but wish to have more boggy planting areas.

You will love Hughes Water Gardens. Almost all water/bog plants sold in local nurseries are grown there. They are cheaper at the source and it is a lovely destination.

Here it is planted. Thanks Leeanne that place was wonderful. The display pond is amazing. And best of all it is about 4 miles from where I will be staying up there.

I'm new to ponding and I don't understand the plumbing that you did. Is there any way that you could explain the inlet/outlet thing about the pipes?

The plumbing is pretty simple. The 12" pipe that is standing up is the clean out. The 6" pipe is the manifold that has slots cut every 5" half way thru the pipe. On the end it has a 6" -3" reducer bushing with a 3" elbow up with 3" pipe for my inlet. I will use a submersible pump to clean with all I need to do is drop it inside the 12" pipe. this is the link to the website I found for more directions http://bogfiltration.com/making_your_own_upflow_bog_filte.html. It was very easy to make and it didn't take very long to do.
