Not for the faint of heart - quarantine

You gotta have some moxy to keep fish.
An unpleasant surprise or two is to be expected when you are quarantining fish. But this one was a new one.
Don't know how she got in the tanks.

No, quite alive.  o(:-)
Looking for chicken eggs in the wrong place.
We let her go and she slithered into the drain pipe.

Wish that had happened Saturday when Joyce was there.  Sunbeam talked about the possibility of snakes in the pond, and Joyce kept saying she's not afraid of snakes ... you could tell she was itching to see / grab one.

Caught a 3' water snake in my friends pond when we lived in NC...and wasn't quite sure if it was harmless until after I caught it.  :o

I wasn't entirely sure this snake was a "friendly" until I had it in the net and Dr. Robinson (heheheh) had a chance to examine it.  The snake and I didn't start-off with a polite introduction, either.  When I went to take the cover off the q-tank, it struck at me.  I didn't know it was there, but it *clearly* knew where I was!  Hence my "minimum silhouette" stance when holding the net.

I have been told that they can go straight up the sides of a tank but how the heck did it get thru a net?? Without knowing it is a safe snake I am not so sure I would be happy to see it in my tanks.  {:-P;; And it has been years since I have studied snakes.

I would have walked on water. Crawly things, especially ones that pop up when least expected, give me the willeys.
I'm learning to hold my own with humming birds though.

Cheers,

Mike

lol mike.. you and I would make a perfect pair at a scarey movie.  My jumps and startles scare people more than the movie does.

Snakes is one of the few downsides of ponding for me.. I dont like them, they ate all my frogs and whats a pond without a frog ;(

I suppose I might be quite startled if I ever came across a snake in my pond.  The other day I lifted my 5 year old's kiddy pool in our back porch, and there was a big empty taping compound bucket underneath.  Inside were coiled rubber runners from my son's huge Tonka tank, they looked like a snake or two snuggled down all cozy and comfy.  I just about leaped out of my skin.  LOL!  I don't really mind snakes, thankfully we don't have many poisonous ones here.

I like snakes I've kept all kinds as pets.
I have lots of big banded water snakes in my ponds. They are very tame and don't flee from me but if I try to pet one they'll open there mouths and act like there going to bite me until I back off.     Maybe someday they will let me pick them up like my frogs will.
