What yellow hardy is your favorite?
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:43:03 AM »
Looking for an outstanding medium growing yellow hardy.  I've got Helvola & mexicana--both cute but looking for something bigger but not huge.  I've grown Innerlight, Charlene Strawn, Joey Tomocik, & currently have Perry's Double Yellow (second year on it so maybe it'll do better now).  Want a deep rich yellow with full blooms.  What do you recommend?

Kat so far my favorite yellow is lemon mist....I've had it for a few years now and it blooms well and I just like the lemony color to it...plus it doesn't get huge like alot of the yellows I've seen....

I'm generally a fan of Strawn hardies--how about Lemon Chiffon or Lemon Mist?

Texas Dawn might be a good one as well.

I had texas dawn before. It's beautiful but it does not bloom that well as other lilies. :(

The only yellow water lily that I had with a deep yellow bloom was Chromatella.

I certainly haven't had a great deal of the yellows but I think Chromatella and Mexicana are about as deep yellow as they get.

My favorite is Sunrise. BIG showy blooms, blooms well. Its a soft yellow but not pale. Gold Medal is also very nice. Big pretty blooms, excellent bloomer for me.

My Mexicana has pale yellow flowers, not as deep as Chromatella.

Joey T. is my favorite too.  It has multiple blooms all summer long.

I got in Lemon Chiffon from ewaterlily.com & Lemon Mist from Lawanna.  I'll give them a try this year & see how they do.  Joey Tomocik would discolor a bit for me, so that is why I no longer have it, plus it took up a lot of space.  Not crazy about the color yellow but my Helvola bloomed like CRAZY & was so pretty.  The multiple crowns helped with the bloom count but I was so glad to see it doing so well.

Texas Dawn is a good yellow and is prolific in my hands despite comments above.  I can't get a good photo, but Yellow Comanche (photo is third day when orange glow comes in) is one of my favorites.  Sunrise has a beautiful flower, but in my hands it is not as good of a bloomer and down your way I would go for Yellow Dazzler (tropical)
