blooms
« on: October 25, 2006, 12:57:34 PM »
I went home yesterday to relocate all of the tropical water lilies from the big pond to the ponds on the other side of the house where they will remain till spring and get upwards of 12 hrs of sunlight a day. Thanks to the angle of the sun, the big pond will recieve less than 2 hrs of sunlight till spring which isn't enough for getting blooms. Its pretty much empty right now except for a handful of marginals--the water is so cold that all the mulm settled on the bottom which is great for easy vacuuming.

There are still a lot of plants blooming. Some not pictured above are King of Siam, Lindsey Woods, Albert Greenberg, Barbara Barnett, Anne Emmet, Hunter's Moon, Jack Wood, Devin M.A. Medeiros, Charlie's Pride, Carla's Sonshine, Moon Beam, Golden West, William Mclane, Star of Zanzibar, Pink Flamingo, Ostara and some more that i can't think of at the moment..

They look great and I am envious. I have warm pond water but no sun so all the buds will not open.

Oh My!  I have to say that was just the jolt I needed to warm me up on this very, very cold day!  And after spending the last 4 hours trying to get the data off my daughter's broken laptop, I really, really needed to look at the pretties!!!

So Thank you, Thank you, Thank you - from the bottom of my frozen, bleary eyed, little heart!!

1500 gallon pond. Most residents are 11 yrs old. Most are Koi, with one 9 yr old bullhead catfish. Residents took a trip of one hr to their new home. We all moved to this home just over a yr ago. They love their new digs!

Thats just not fair. I am solid green with envy

These are truly spectacular and the photos themselves are great also.

Not fair, somewhere there must be a law against tormenting the lily deprived :)

Enzo, all your photos are great, but I really like Sandra Lynn (#1). It's very interesting.

Very pretty! I miss my lilies already and I've got about 7 months to go before I see anymore blooms. How depressing is that??!!

Foxfire and Alexis are really pretty.

Glad everyone enjoyed the photos. They were last fertilized in late July to early August. I plan on doing minimal maintenance such as removing exhausted blooms and foliage from time to time. I'm hoping these recent short bursts of cold temps will coerce them to all tuber. The purple's have already started as I see a few babies coming around the crown of some plants. What I really need to do is organize them as I just stuck the trops from my collection into either of the propagation ponds...

I also had Stan Skinger blooming. The only one I can't locate is Noelene--how convenient...:(

Anyone have any ideas on how to get a viviparous tropical to start producing vivips? A few weeks back Vanilla Sky had the vivip nodes and now the pads are normal again. I have to be careful because its the most cold sensitive trop I have.
