UPDATE...........Your prayers please
« on: April 24, 2009, 12:36:52 PM »
Our 26 yr. old daughter, Mikaela, took herself to the ER Wed. because of extreme stomach pains. She was diagnosed with a 'complex hemorrhagic ovarian cyst'. She was told they can be fatal so we are thanking God that she felt the need to get to the ER. She was given meds to dissolve the cyst and will need to be monitored to make sure more aren't forming. She's in college an hour away and didn't call us because 'I knew you would freak out and drive down and I didn't want you to if it was no big deal'. She got strict instructions NOT to think that again.
My cousin (we have always called each other our sister rather than cousin), Cindy, was taken from work yesterday to the ER. She had emergency surgery yesterday and the dr. found she had a twisted intestine. The dr. told us they got there 'just in time', twisted intestines cause loss of blood flow to tissues, etc. and had she not gotten to the ER when she did most likely would have died.
So the Lord was caring for both of them even before anyone knew there were problems. Your prayers for complete recovery would be greatly appreciated. Especially for Mikaela since she has been told that these can continue to form.
Thanks everyone,
Cath and family

Wow Cath. What a close call for both them. I can just hear the lecture your daughter was given. LOL I certainly hope they both continue to recover quickly. I will pray for Mikaela and Cindy. I have a niece Micaela and a step daughter Cindi so should be able to remember them.

My goodness, Cath, that's a double whammy of worry.  I sure hope that both gals are going to be OK.  Ovarian cancer can be really scary.  Sending positive thoughts.

Thanks everyone for the prayers.
I visited my cousin/sis tonight. She looks good and says after what she went through yesterday she's not sure she could go through that much pain ever again. The dr. told her today that the tissue of her small intestine was gray when he got to it  (from lack of blood) and the second he untwisted it it started 'pinking up' right away. He said had it been any longer she would have either died or needed a port for feeding for the rest of her life because the intestine wouldn't have revived.
Our daughter has a dr. appt. tomorrow morning at 9AM. This will tell if the cyst is dissolving. If it does not dissolve on its own she will need laporoscopic surgery to remove it.

Here's the update Tammie....Mikaela went to the clinic this morning. The cyst has not dissolved yet and she's still having a lot of pain. They gave her more meds for the cyst and more pain pills. She goes back in this Monday for more ultrasounds to see if there is any progress. The dr. said if she's still having pain a week from this Monday they will have to do a laparoscopy. Mikaela is kind of freaked out about this option, but she also realizes this could lead to way more serious problems if left as is.
Her classes will be done the end of this week so at least she won't have to freak out about missing any of those. BTW......anyone interested, Mikaela is getting her degree in Landscape Design and Horticulture. I need her well so we can tend to both of our yards together. We love our time spent doing that.
We are a pair right now....I had to have a hysterectomy the end of March so neither of us can lift much or do much right now. Guess we'll have to be supervisors for DH and 20 yr. old son. We can have them do the digging, etc. and Mikaela and I will just stick the plants in the holes.
Thanks for caring and praying everyone! It's very scary having your 26 yr. old 'kid' with a weird problem like this and very comforting to know people are praying.

UPDATE.........Re: Your prayers please
« Reply #14 on: April 26, 2009, 03:13:59 PM »
Wanted to share some great news. My cousin was dismissed from the hospital this afternoon. Her dr. told her an average stay for this type of surgery is 5 days after surgery at the least. Today is the 3rd day after surgery. He said that her recovery has been remarkable and he is quite amazed that she has regained her strength so quickly and that her healing has gone so fast. So a special thanks to everyone for their prayers. We all know why she has done so well, don't we?!

Daughter, Mikaela, had her ultrasound yesterday. All the dr. told her at her appt. following the ultra was 'it hasn't grown, but it hasn't got smaller either. I'll probably have to consider sending you to a gyn.'.....do you think????!!!!! This is her last week of classes. She'll be home now and then since she's working a job here in our town for part of the week as well as 1 in her town for the other part. If nothing has changed by then I will see if I can get her in to our dr.
