Another prayer request
« on: April 27, 2009, 02:54:02 PM »
As you read this, before you close this thread please whisper a simple prayer for my wife. She is in the ICU unit of our local hospital. She has battled hepatitus C and now her liver panel toxicity levels have skyrocketed. She was so healthy and vibrant on our vacation just last week and tonight she needs our prayers. Her blood sugar is now corrected and that was a major problem but she is very depressed and in need of help. I believe in the power of prayer. God listens.

The hospital?!?!  Oh how sad!

She looked so lovely and lively on your vacation shots.  I know she was having the time of her life.  Surely that gal has the spunk and will to fight this Hep C thing, and will be back home and on her feet real soon.

I can tell you from experience that many members will be praying. I have been so thrilled to see how many are praying for my requests. So be assured that an abundance of prayers will be on their way, Bullfrog.
I pray for the doctors to know what course to take and for that treatment to work for your wife. Also for comfort for both of you during this frightening time.
It's scary how fast something can come on but also scary in a different way how much prayers can do.

I will be praying for her Bullfrog and both my husband and I had Hep C and went through the Peg Interferon tx and fortunately we both cleared after a year of it. That was back in 2002 and we still have clean tests. I assume she has been through the tx and it didn't work? There is a wonderful forum that I lived on during tx: Hep C and emotional healing. Lot's of wonderful caring people with so much info. http://www.geocities.com/lyngail1/homepage.html . I do hope and pray that she can be cleared somehow soon. Janice

She went through the peg interferon treatment three years ago and was too weak from it to evacuate for hurrincane Rita. The virus itself is undetectable now but they keep a close eye on her live panels. She was moved to a regular room last night and hopefully will be released in another day or two. Her name is Vicki. She just called me because she knows that I'm awake at 04:00 AM when I have to work. They let me leave work yesterday to take care of things and I can make up the time Friday. She gave me a list of honeydoos and things to bring. I have to feed her Bearded Dragon giant superworms before I go to work.

Thanks everyone for the prayers, I was really stressed out yesterday as she was but things are looking much better today.

Well that's great that she is undetectable. If she had a lot of damage to her liver before tx than maybe it will just take a long time to heal. I know that if we have liver damage we need to eat good foods and not a lot of fat that can cause fatty liver. I am bad and eat whatever I want but I didn't have a damaged liver from the HepC and so far so good. DH's was not so good but I'm sure it's much better now w/o that horrible virus.  I don't drink alcohol anymore and I don't smoke and that can really help your liver heal. DH has his beer now and then but not to excess and he doesn't smoke either. There are lots of foods and herbs etc. that are good for cleaning your liver. You guys prolly already know all that tho. I pray that Vicki's liver heals and that soon she will be as good as new Bullfrog.

Thank you all. She is in much better spirits today. She made a great turn overnight, her liver panels are normal and she will be released tomorrow. Esther, if you are talking about the bearded dragon, I have to feed him Giant Superworms. They will curl back up and bite you if you don't grab them by the head. It is gross as they will also squirt a small stream of urine at you also, fun in the morning. I tell my wife that in their native Australia, nobody goes out in the desert and hand feeds these big lizards, they hunt. But she loves him and insists on hand feeding him.

She will be coming home today, thank God. If I'm not here tonight you will know why. I want to spend some time with her on the deck listening to old rock and roll. The dogs need to play fetch real bad and of course Dundee the lizard will need his cuddle time with her also. It will be great to have her back home.

I managed to pop in while at work. Esther, a giant superworm is I believe an overgrown or adult mealworm. they sell mealworms at Petsmart and other pet stores but Giant Superworms are a lot bigger, over an inch to two inches. We order them and 1,000 crickets from the internet. The worms look like a caterpillar without any fuzz, a slick, segmented body. The jaws will get you but the also seem to have small pinsers on their tail.

She fed it a few mice but it prefers worms and crickets and I'm glad for that.

The nurse is telling her that she must finish her regimen of kidney flushing medicine before she leaves but we are both telling the hospital that she is an adult and perfetly capable of bringing the last two doses home and finishing it there. The liver panels are normal now, she is off of the IV and the bed could be cleared for someone else who needs it.

The nurse said they would kick it forward but the last dose would still be around 8:00 PM. My sweet wife patiently explained that I wake up for work at 04:00 A.M. and we live in the next town, that she will be leaving with me when I get off at 5:00 P.M. so please just have the last dose, the directions and her discharge papers ready by then.

The nurse said that the doctor will be by this evening, here we go.

I like to fanciful myself somewhat of a writer, even with my limited formal education and my confusion of proper verbage and syntax. Still, never in my wildest dreams could I concieve of the outright patient neglect and abuse that my wife witnessed and and endured in just 48 hours in this hospital if I were trying to write a horror novel about hospitals. She shared a room with an 83 year old female that called repeatedly to be placed on the potty. This poor woman endured waits of greater than 30 minutes until finally she soiled her bed only to be humilited by the staff when they had to clean her up.

I am infuriated by this abuse and neglect of a senior and her lack of personal dignity. When they did come after more than 30 minutes to put her on her potty chair, my wife heard her buzz the nurse and she was still left on the potty for longer than a half an hour. Today, believe it or not, the nurses had sheet cakes and a party going on at the nurses station for a personal reason, a birthday or something while this poor woman sat stranded on the potty.

I sat and wrote two full pages of this abuse and tomorrow I'm going to call the patient advocate and invite them to meet me at this nurses station after work. I am going to read off, one by one, the neglect and abuses that this woman suffered. I am also going to inform them that I know that the hospital will bury these fact and I am going to report them to the Texas Department of Heath, the ones who hold the certifications that these nurses operate under. I am going to report this to the highest levels.

I have been a paramedic for many years and I bleed with my patients. I can't believe that people could be so cold hearted to leave a woman who could be my mother alone in the bed needing to go to the bathroom until she shit herslef and then humiliated her for doing so. These are helpless people, seniors, not freaking cars that can wait. This is just one incident. This poor woman had been awake since 03:00 AM and got her breakfast at 08:00. Five minutes later two people came in and informed her that it was time for her bath. She was so sweet and innocent. She begged them to just let her eat her breakfast. The curtain was drawn so my wife couldn't see who they were but it is on record who was working at that time on that shift.

The female actually told her male helper. "OK, put this on the record, she is refusing her bath, we are moving on to the next patient." This poor 83 year old woman begged them to just let her eat her breakfast and then give her her bath. I'm so infuriated I can barely type. I am going to hang there ass out to dry and also am going to stop by on my way home from work tomorrow and tell them so in front of their "patient advocate".

These are living people, helpless 83 year old grandmothers that they are too busy eating cake and partying in the nuses station to take off of the potty or out of the bed before they shit themselve's. Excuse my language, but this is intolerable. I hope the "responsible" parties loose their licsence and have to flip burgers. I would never treat a patient like this and I'm going to tell them that I am going to put the noose on their neck. You could fry eggs on my head right now.

I have two full pages of neglect, front and back that my wife witnessed in just 48 hours. How many people have died there while they ignored the call from a helpless old woman while they were eating cake? Dammit, if you don't care about people you have no business in the health care profession. This isn't a job, it's people lives and dignity. I am going to hang them from the highest pole, hope they loose their jobs and tell them to their face tomorrow.

"Heads up bitch, when my mother calls you and tells you that she needs off the potty, don't leave her sitting there for over a half hour while you eat cake and have a good time. I really hope that I get your job and I'm going to try to, you don't desreve to be a health care giver."

Please excuse and forgive me please for my language but I'm fit to kill right now, nobody should be treated like this and I'm going to the one who holds their license.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, the abuse of this woman. My wife puked all over the bathroom. The walls, the floor and the toilet seat. She called the nurses station and reported this. Forty minute later, the nurse came and scooped it all up in a towel and just shoved it against the toilet in a pile. Four hours later my wife had to use the bathroom and it was still there. She had to sit sidesaddle on the commode and straddle vomit just to use the toilet. This was on nights when most patients are knocked out on meds.

I have two full pages front and back that this poor old lady and my wife had to suffer in just 48 hours. This is unbelieveable. IV bags run dry, malfunctioning BP cuffs applied to the arm with the IV in that wouldn't deflate until it blew the vein and the nurse admitted that she knew the cuff wouldn't deflate. This is a chamber of horrors right here in our town. We trust our loved ones to their care? I can't believe that people can be so cold when they are in the care of living people.

Two pages front and back, you haven't even heard the worse of it. I'm going to make it my endeavor to report this neglect and hang them from the highest tree.

Again, forgive me for my rant but this really hits home with me

I say go for it Bullfrog, it's a human rights issue for me.  In my experience there's one thing that pays off in this world--it may not be money, or intelligence or knowledge--but plain persistence.  Dogged determination to see something clear 'til the end and you have achieved what you set out to do.

Some of us have been blessed (or cursed) with a vengeance for justice.  That woman needs a champion, as does your wife.

You have my blessing.

There are things you do because they feel right & they may make no sense & they may make no money & it may be the real reason we are here:  to love each other & to eat each other's cooking & say it was good.  ~  Brian Andreas
