Garden Shots - overtaken by green
« on: May 02, 2009, 06:13:15 PM »
Ever since I was a kid green has been my favorite color.  But I'm beginning to think I need to plant more flowers...

Sonny, your courtyard is stunning!  I like the look of different greens, textures of leaves, shapes, silvery green, ferns, and balanced out with the stones and pavers and wood.  I wouldn't change a thing.  It's so beautiful and relaxing and secluded.  I have wide open spaces and wish I was gifted with the talent to know what plants to use to enclose some of my spaciousness!!!

Thanks for letting me look!   8)

I have to agree that you have a most beautiful place. The green really sets the backdrop for some relaxation and meditation. A wonderland of soothing green.  And natch, we always hide the stuff we're not showing off! Thank you for the pictures.

I am proud to say I've been there and done that!  8)
Met Jim last month when I was in Texas.  :)
Toured his exquisite gardens, sipped his delicious homemade sun tea while being greeted by his herd of canines, and then Jim gave us a grand tour of downtown Houston. What an awesome city! We also went to The Garden Gate, a fantastic garden center when I bought a bunch of stuff.
And we had lunch with Jim at an Italian Bistro-Grocer-Deli which sooo reminded me of New Orleans, AND it had Muffeletto on the menu...so that's what I had for lunch.  @O@

Jim is such a GREAT and generous guy...came home with some of his succulent plants too!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.  I am late this year but I will be shopping for some annual color.

I had a wonderful time with Joyce, Bill and Jamie. There was not enough time though. On your next visit Joyce we have to go to Caldwell's, Mercer Arboretum and perhaps the Japanese Garden in Herman Park.  If you have the time, that is.

Let me tell you, folks, I've seen that yard / garden / pond in person, as it was on the Houston Pond Tour some years back - it is truly wonderful!!  It's one of my favorites.  In fact, even though the photos are of plants and not much of the whole space, I recognized his yard by the second shot, probably because when I saw it in person I just "absorbed" the views, it's so lovely.  Love the stonework.

We were on the pond tour twice; several years ago.  I was here once and at a college reunion the other time.

Julles, you are welcome to come by for a visit anytime!  It is always a pleasure to visit with folks who enjoy ponds/plants/fish.  :ok:

Beautiful gardens.  Wish I lived closer so I could come visit.

What is that concrete cylinder in the top picture?
Is it a yard roller?  I really like it. o(:-)

Yes, it is a lawn roller.  It's an old limestone one from the UK.

If you ever find yourself in the neighborhood please look me up Karen.  Would love to have you over.   :)

I always enjoy your photos of your gorgeous garden and pond.  You collect very neat things to display and admire from all over.

Can't go wrong with green.  Until spring we pretty much have nothing but calming beautiful green.

I love foliage so much more than flowers.  Just redid my beds to include many shades of purple leaves, with a little lime green tossed in, plus a very few accents of white.  Just waiting for it all to fill in.  I do have some flowers - purple ruellia, and some diamond frost euphorbia, and their green leaves are set off against all that purple.

Jim, I'm somewhat "known" in your neighborhood - if you pick up the freebie newspaper the Southwest News, my Wallpaper Lady ad is in there every week, and has been for 20 years.  I work around there a lot.  Also used to date a guy in 3800 Merrick.  THAT was ALSO 20 years ago!   :D

In the first pic.  You have a long cactus looking plant in a small container.  Is that a dragon fruit?

Well... I don't know what dragon fruit is really.  Just did a google and I don't think it is.  It is actually a cactus I bought at Home Depot years ago.  It was only about 6" tall then (that's why you see it a pot that would be appropriate for such a small plant).  It has now grown to at least 12'.  It is above the arbor!  Never been re-potted or anything.  One of these days I need to give it a better home.   (8:-)

Nice photos. Green is a good colour in the garden, a great backdrop for the flowers when they bloom.
