Roses for Tink!
« on: May 05, 2009, 10:22:01 AM »
Hey Tink!  When we chatted last night in the chatroom you mentioned you wanted to see more pictures in posts.  Well here's a special one for you and everyone else who misses more photos.

And since you mention your love for roses....

I love roses too, but they don't go well with deer.  ::)  :'(  :no:
When we moved, I brought Zepherine Drouhin and a no name climber from a pond forum trade.
I only like roses that constantly bloom and smell like a rose.
If it doesn't smell like a rose, it ain't a rose.   ;)
Peace to all  ... Joyce

Lovely roses! I like roses too but they don't do well here in the humid climate so I really enjoy seeing yours.

I used to be crazy for roses, especially heirloom English roses that have amazing fragrances.  My DH hated roses because he felt obligated to trim them until I told him "hands off my roses."  Now he enjoys them and once in a while strips every blooming rose to put in a vase for me just to say he loves me.  It use to irritate me to see all the roses gone but then again he is doing me a favor by "trimming" them for more blooms to come up!  {:-P;;

Bonnie that 3rd rose is a David Austin Fragrant English rose which I cannot for the life of me remember its name (a few loose cobwebs upstairs).  This year I enjoyed the large profusions of blooms from it.  Only wish I was smart enough to take a photo!  :doh:

Joyce, it took a long time for me to grow the roses I liked for their performance and fragrance.  When I learned to read the labels for the quality than looking a pretty picture I finally got the roses I like.  There are some roses that look and perform so beautifully it's sad they do not smell like anything.  A well!  Too bad deers appreciate roses so much  :D

JW I know what you mean!  When I walk through my garden or anywhere there are roses I spend a lot of time sniffing the fragrance.  Always there's an "AWWW" and a "OOOHHH" after each breath.

Maryvonne you may not be able to grow roses but you can grow beautiful brightly colored rhododendrons whereas it's almost impossible here, especially with the water shortage.

It's no wonder Tink doesn't see photos here....she's so busy with her beautiful pond and garden.  But just in case here are a few more roses I've found here and there in our heat.

You are so welcomed Tink!  Hope it brightened your day.  Trick to most of my garden plants...don't fuss over them.  I just water, feed, then chop.  When I use to fuss over the plants they either looked weak or died.  Now I try not to worry so much and enjoy them.

Thanks Karen.  The mini rose baskets were purchased about 6 to 7 years ago.  The ferns growing out the bottom have not grown back well this year because the nectarine tree they hang from did not bloom and the leaf out until this month....Late for So. California standards, I think.  So they got a bit fried with a few odd heatwaves we have had to endure.
