South Coast Plaza Spring Garden Show Finds
« on: May 07, 2009, 04:15:40 PM »
I went to the Garden Show at a local shopping center....without DH  O0  There were three floors of fabulous plants and landscape designs to feast my eyes on and many plants shouting for me to take them home.

Since I only brought a small cart to hold any important purchases I could only buy small affordable plants.  This is what I got!

The Ti cuttings came with the pin cushion (protea) plants and 3 Gloriosa lily bulbs.  They also threw in 2 pineapple lilies.  @O@

Then I found a couple of stalls with exotic pitcher plants  :D  Had to have one, or two, or three....  Also had to be inexpensive = small  >:(

The top 2 photos are of a hanging pitcher plant which I saw for the first time in Hong Kong and became enamored with its oddity.  Hopefully I can get it to grow!

Second plant (3rd & 4th) had a bloom starting...a definite purchase so DH can see why I like carnivorous plants.

Then the guy who sold me the first plant threw in this very small, what I call, fly paper.  I had it in full sun until today...it's wilting, ugggg.

You'll be in epi heaven in a few years when they bloom.  I really behaved myself this year and only bought a few air plants.  If you slipped a few times on the floor I apologize.  I was drooling while lusting after many of the plants.....

I know!  Can you believe it takes at least a year or 2 before the epi's bloom from a cutting!?!?  Oh well, they better be really good.  I chatted up with the guy at the stand and all the blooms displayed with the cuttings were all from his garden.  I can say I was impressed.

I went through the whole mall, like a pro, 2 days in a row.  First with my DD purchasing everything and the second with my mom and purchased a New Zealand Rock Lily.  Carried that monster in a bag because I forgot my cart  >:(  Tried to get Mom to pick something out but she didn't want me spending so much money.  I probably scared her when I was checking out the Japanese Maples.  :D

Photos below are taken at the mall show.  There are 3 floors of gardening and plant displays.  First floor mostly displays.

This next display was Japanese themed but the interesting feature was the led lights that shown from a point source on the plants below and looked like the tips were lit by tiny pins of light.

Love the pot fountain and the glass water path.

This cactus is beautiful.  The yellow blooms are the size of the palm of my hands.

Then we arrived at the center of the mall to a beautiful Secret Garden Floral display by the same people who design many of the floats for the Rose Parade.  Lots of real potted and cut flowers.

The display with the pin-point laser light dots on the leaves of the Maples and such was amazing.  I didn't even want to ask how much one of those units would cost....

Great displays there.

My neighbour gave me two cuttings ( snap offs ) from his epi yesterday - just love those blooms.

Cheers,

Mike

The sales guy was real friendly but when I asked the price he gave me the price of all the different types of the technical lights I was very polite to say, 'Oh that's nice  :o " and quickly forgot everything else.  I just remember one little spot light was at least $350 and that's just the light part.  The machine thingy costs waaaaaaay more!  :D

Thanks LeeAnne and Tinker.

MikeW, it's always nice to share!  I hope my new epi's will grow like crazy so I have something to share.
