I was working and asked Debs to take some early shots of the lotus on the chance I would miss it.
She also took these before the sun was over the house so it just popped.
Still one of my fave plants.

That's beautiful!  Neat how there are the two colors. Is it a night bloomer then?

Here is a pic taken before snow and ice showed up in San Angelo.
Weird weather this year, very cold very early.
Heck we actually had a snow storm last Friday in Houston of all places.
The earliest recorded snowfall...
Still Foxfire is tough...

Enjoy.

Here is the weirdness in pics...
Opened waterlilies that couldn't close because of snow in them.
Palm trees with snow on them.
This may seem everyday to most of you but this is only about the 5th time we have had snow in Houston in my 45 years.

And by the way, the water on the pads is actually melted snow.
I was able to get out and take these shots about 2 hours after it had stopped snowing.

Oh my!  I love that first pic of Foxfire with the reflection, beautiful!  I want one of those kiddy pools for my roof, to grow out the starts.  You have the same hot sun we have I think, do they break down quickly?

Thanks Tim, for those beautiful pictures that put color to my day
since I have almost all my aquatics and terrestrials are in sleep and except
the usual green have only the colors of berberis and nandina though the
temperature is between 50-50 F and nice rainy days.
Could you pls tell me what is the water depth in your blue containers?
Thanks.

The pools are 5 feet wide and about 10 or 11 inches deep.
Jonna, if you are referring to the breakdown of the kiddie pools, it depends.
I have some that are 4 years old and fine. About half of what I bought in the last year have developed cracks and leaks.
Unfortunately the plastic used to make these comes from the same petroleum used for gasoline.
Remember gas got to over $4.00 a gallon last year in the states.
I think the manufacturers just got cheap and did not make them as thick to save on costs.
The heck of it is that when I started buying them they were $8.88, now they are $11.88 or higher.
That is a 25% increase in price in just 2 years. It is not cost effective if they stay cheaply made.

BTW, I'm glad you liked the shots.
 :)

That's what I was afraid of, that the plastic would break down and leak.  I would need to have Mollies in them for mosquito control and I'd hate to come home and the pond had emptied.  On my roof, the sun reflects off the white concrete sealer and the walls so it is quite hot.  Plus, I can't find any of those pools for sale now.  It's winter you know and whether the temps are in the 90's or not there is only xmas stuff for sale.  I think my best bet might be to look for a stock tank of some type.

Jonna you should try going to waldo's mart they have some big containers made of hard plastic only for 90 pesos I believe they were.
They have worked so good up here in monclova, and they are on top of the roof and believe monclova gets freaking hot during summer and nothing had happened to them..good luck looking for them. O0

are you talking Gual Mar?    I will go and look.  I bought some box shapped hard plastic containers at Home Depot the other day for $109p  but they are not very wide and deeper than I would need.  I should go look at the agriculture stores as well, I just thought of that.

Nope, not walmart...you then have no idea what Waldo's Mart is?
Waldo's is a store kinda like dollar tree and all of those cheap but useful stores that whenever you need something just to help you out, they always do have it...well they have some good hard plastic containers and for a very cheap price...

Nope, don't recognize that name.  There are a lot of the plastics stores here so I should take a look in some of those, also perhaps at the mercado or around it.

I"m going back on the search now, incredibly, almost overnight, all the xmas stuff is gone and the outdoor stuff is back in all the stores.  They must have somewhere it all goes because until a few days ago every single store was jammed with xmas stuff and nothing else.  I may have a better chance now to find something.
