I need to raise some pots to the proper height, I was told at a pond place they use a special cinder block that won't harm the fish. What are you using?

plain old bricks- i think the special block is because fish may bump into it?

I made a long 6 legged table frame out of pvc and have my lily pots (perfect fit) sitting on the frame by their rims.  Works well and it's cheap!  Fishies can hide under it too!  O0

I use stands I make out of PVC pipe, just drill a hole or two in it so it doesn't try to float ::)

I have been using small, gray Rubbermaid step stools.  They are about $5.00 each, they are durable and give the fish a hiding place.

I use old cinderblocks and bricks. Depending on the height I need I put a cinderblock on its side or stand it on end. Add bricks to it if I need a little more.

I use PVC pipes to make a frame and then attach a piece of Corian to the top.  Looks like a mini table.

Plastic milk carton crates works too.  They're ighter and easier to move then cinderblocks and give the smaller fish a place to hide.

My pond is 5 and a half feet deep. I have 2 32 gallon garbage cans with large holes cut in each side right near the middle of the pond. My fish swim in and through it like a house. I cut bleeder holes in the top/ now bottom of the cans for gases to excape. I use a compressor and blow some air through it every 2 weeks or so. I have a large Flagstone resting on each of them with my lilys atop. On the shelves I decided to rock in the edges and put pea gravel throughout them. I have many more planting options now.

I use blocks because of our level of wind. Using light weight items like the milk crates equals turned over plants for me.
Something else to think about depending on your conditions.

I use those stackable patio tables or the stackable rubbermaid footstools.
They don't tip in the wind cuz the legs are splayed. (Stackable design calls for splayed legs)
Plus no matter what you put your plant on, it's the plant that'll tip in the wind, not what you have them on.

I also do the large flagstone on top too to make the base wider to accomodate larger pots.

Thanks for all the responses, it's a done deal now, I went with the PVC. I only have 5 plants so far but I built 5 stands and looks like it is working out fine, the fish are both swimming through the pvc and hanging out under the pots. Much better than the upside down pots that I was using to prop the plants up.

last year I bought a bunch of plastic coated footed/legged locker shelves on clearance, they are black and 12" high, so in the deep 24+" water in the lily pond I can raise a few probably the tropicals.
