For those mailing packages....
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:12:51 PM »
I just had the mailman return a package I sent out on Monday. Big blue sticker on it says "All mail that bears postage stamps and weighs more than 13 ozs MUST be taken by the customer to a retail service associate at a post office"

Flat rate box with flat rate Priority stamp on it which was picked up by the mailman at my house. Which was the whole point in buying the stamps and ordering the boxes online so I didn't have to stand in the outrageous lines at my local post office.

Just wanted to let everyone know so your packages aren't returned as well.

But the mailman picked it up anyway and your box went through the system only to be returned to you?!?!?  :tease:   Love my postman but.....'nuff said.

Yes  :D  the mailman took the package on Monday and then returned it to me today and now I must pack fresh plants and go stand in line at the PO and pay again to ship to the poor forum member who has already had them delayed more than once! She must think I'm a total flake.  :(

Hmmmm... whoever "she" is, she is  probably is so grateful to you for all the wonderful plants you have shared over the past few years that she is only worried that this is such a hassle for you. O0

you can print your own postage online  through the post office if you have a normal printer and they give yoiu free confirmation and then you can request them to pick it up or just leave it with your mail man.

If I'm going to mail a package, I use the little computer out in the lobby. Most of the time, I can just walk right in without waiting. :)

If someone sent you PayPal for the shipping costs, you can print up the label via PayPal & it includes free delivery confirmation.  I am SO GRATEFUL for that feature so I don't have to stand in line.  I tried the download the print your own labels program but my computer jammed up (hubby said something about Java).  I have never tried the print your own label at the post office but I see a lot of people use it.

My local PO always has a line for the machine in the lobby too. It is frustrating.

I know I can print postage from PayPal but I don't have a scale, can you print flat rate from PayPal?

LeeAnne you can buy postal scales inexpensively, even the post office sells them. The savings from the time standing in line at the post office, and trips. It also makes sending packages much more convenient.

I bought a very nice scale off of e-bay that goes up to 25 lbs and works with batteries or plug. Not expensive at all.

I talked to the clerk at the PO today, she said the problem with my package was that I was using a stamp and not printed out postage. Go figure. Why sell Priority stamps if you can't use them without going to the PO?

Printing online also saves you money! I save about 15 cents each package cause they not only give you a free confirmation but also a discount. It's really easy!  ;D

Someone at the post office told me that if it seems like it will come to that "Bomb sized" weight, mail your stuff in two boxes, if you can. Its no more expensive, and you don't have to go to the post office.
