Science Qu: Why does Kool-Aid freeze in the 'fridge?
« on: June 11, 2009, 04:43:00 PM »
When I set a jug of Kool-Aid in my refrigerator, it will develop ice on the top.  But milk and other liquids don't.

I'm wondering what it is about the Kool-Aid that makes it freeze.  The sugar?

Do you have a top for the container?  Without a top I would think it is colder near the top shelf next to the air blower.  That's my guess.  ;)

Yes, I keep everything in the 'fridge covered.

It doesn't seem to matter if the pitcher is in the front or back of the refrigerator.

I've never had it to freeze in my fridge. Now, I have had Gatorade to freeze at the back of the fridge.

Kool-Aid and alcohol?  {nono}

 :)

I would say the density in the milk keeps it from freezing in your fridge.  You might warm up your fridge a bit.

When I was in my wild teen years, we used to make a drink with Wylers that we called Goofy Grape and Gin.        :P   Yum.

Speaking of Kool-Aid, I had 10 packs of Ice Blue Rasberry Lemonaid that tasted really chemically to me.  I put them up on Freecycle, and had six people fighting over them!
