Abraham Darby is enjoying this warm weather
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:26:56 PM »
The roses haven't looked this good in years. They are enjoying the warm and dry June we are having. This one is especially pretty. I will have to get more photos tomorrow. Rain is expected on Wednesday.

Pretty.

Our May was warm and dry but June was mostly overcast and cooler until today.

A perfect specimen!  I dare say we have switched weather.  We are starting to warm up....slowly.  Before the end of the week we should be sunny.

That is beautiful!  My roses are struggling this year... no sun and super wet.  A couple were loaded with tons of the spring flush but the bushes have almost no leaves.  I cant even get a non rainy day to spray them.

Ahhhh, that pic looks like really life if I have every seen it... Please tell me what you feed your roses with.  This is my first year, hard to believe, to have roses.  I have some knockout roses, climing roses and a Mister Lincoln roses.  All of them have has nice blooms except the last one.  I expect it to be the best of all.

Thanks! I don't do anything with my roses. I use to have lots of roses but the normally damp cool weather has slowly killed most of them. A few have managed to survive although they don't typically do well at all. Our weather pattern is unusual this year and they are doing very well. I have pretty much given up on growing roses in this climate.
The clouds are rolling in today and we should be back to our normal showers tomorrow. Glad to here you are getting warmer again Annette.

I do miss roses.  It's too humid or too hot or both here, they sell them but most that I see in yards have mildew or nematodes and look scraggly.  Mr Lincoln was my favorite rose when we lived up north, the smell is heavenly and it was always very healthy and bloomed a lot.

Beautiful Maryvonne!  I only have 1 knock out rose that does very well if I spray it before the japanese bean beetles arrive and one climber that isn't good at climbing!  ;)

I'm happy to report that the weather is still mostly warm and dry. The roses are still doing well.

Maryvonne, can you believe that D Austin is pulling Pretty Jessica from all the patent places??  My understanding is that the retailers and suppliers that want to sell his roses must sell only those which he allows them to sell.  Only those that do not sell his patented varieties wil carry her now.   I am hoping to get one or 2 of them from Palatine or Pickering before this rule rolls into Canada also.  The cynic in me says that they are phasing out the ones that are no longer patented as they can't turn as much of a profit.  To give DA a break though, maybe he feels that they are inferior to newer varieties based on thier performance in England.

My garden is way not humid, so many of those roses that are susceptible to black spot do not have that problem here.  I have to grin when the hosta people rant about slugs (though I sympathize!).  I have never seena slug here.  Oh Lordy!  Hope that does not jinx me!  *bracing for a black spot and slug invasion*
