Pics - What is this?
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:27:10 AM »
First, what kind of eggs are these?  The picture is blurry, but hopefully someone will know what they are.  You can see some fish food pellets to guage the size of the eggs.  Are they friend of foe?  :)

Here is the pond today

So I will be having tadpoles soon.  Dumb question - How did the frog get into the pond to lay the eggs and then get back out?

I saw a huge toad sitting on top of the gravel on one of my lily pots which was closer to the surface...maybe you have a plant pot near the surface?
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

No pots near the surface.  There is a hose that enters the pond about 2 inches from the top board.  you can see it in the back right sorner of the pond.  or maybe the eggs came in on a plant I bought at the nursery or something.  Well, do I need to put in some make-shift steps so the baby frogs can get out?

WHAT COLOR ARE THE EGGS? They look kind of tannish to me. If so , they are fish eggs.

They are definately brown or tan, varying degrees of brown I would say.
here are two more pictures.  They still aren't very clear, but you can maybe see the color.

I don't know, but if they're brown they are NOT toads.  Toads are black.  Or, at least mine were  o(:-)  Let us know what they turn into!

My guess would be tree frogs. They snook into my lotus nursery one night and laid eggs. They also got into a tub with water lily divisions in it and laid some eggs in it as well. We have little green tree frogs that entertain us every night. :)
Happy ponding,

We have zillions of frogs out here and they were extra-ordinarily loud last night and then this morning I noticed the eggs.  I guess love was in the air.  I'll let everyone know what we get!

Those are absolutely FROG eggs.  There are hundreds of different frogs and their eggs are as different as they are - and yes, some eggs are light colored.  There is no way that those are fish eggs - they are definitely frog eggs.  Toad eggs are usually in strings, not clumps.
