We survived. Now with pix link.
« on: June 20, 2009, 08:10:24 PM »
Tomorrow is Pete's and my 25th anniversary (second time around, otherwise would be 47 for me). Because most of our kids are having job problems or lots of hubbub in their lives, I decided to give my own party. We had 42 this afternoon and evening for supper, chatting and swimming. I had bought New York Strip steaks a while back for $2.79 a pound so cut them in half and ended up with 42 pieces of steak. We also did chicken breast tenders. I furnished a big bowl of jello, watermelon, chips and the beverages (Koolaid/pop punch) water and iced tea. My sister in law brought a huge sheet cake and my daughter in law brought 4 dozen Logan's rolls. She's a manager there. Everyone who came brought at least one dish to pass and we had lots to eat. If I ever get the pix downloaded, I'll put some here.

It's noon Monday and everything is taken care of and put away back to normal. Just a few leftovers in the refrigerator to eat. What a good feeling!!! The house is clean and the windows washed. The yard is all weedless and well groomed. The pool and patios are all clean. The garage is all straightened up. The pond and water features all are clean and sparkling. Hmmmm, maybe we should have another party, QUICK. I have done that before, scheduled two parties close together. As long as you have all the hubbub, might as well get it over all at one time.

Kitty, haven't you learned yet??? Ya gotta start talking about what to do for your anniversary. Ask what he'd like for a gift. Chat about what the kids might get you guys FOR YOUR ANNIVERSARY. Mumble about whether to try a new hairdo/haircut, something different AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF MARRIAGE. Put it on the calendar circled in a red heart. Wonder (out loud) if you should give a party for your anniversary (even if you have no inkling to do it).  Ask how much he wants you to spend for your gift for him. (So you won't over spend). LOL. See Kitty, your problem is that you think he should remember that day above all others. You think he should know what you'd like to do for it. You think he should know what you'd like for a gift. You are a dreamer!! If I would have said I wanted to redo my rings for our 25th, he would have done it but seeing I said that with him laid off we better not do anything more than the party, that's exactly what he did-----not even a card. LOL. I have finally gotten past being hurt by it and have learned to not expect anything----well kinda.

I know, there are some guys out there who never forget and seem to have the knack of getting A GIFT and just the right one and it's the right color and fits. We should take a poll. I suspect they are few and far between.

Oh another tack to take. Head to his friend, coworker, brother, sister, mother, the mail man, his child (all of them on the sly) and ask them to do you a favor by mentioning your anniversary to him. Have them get him talking about what you like and provide them with suggestions. See there's more ways to accomplish things.

If all the above fails and you are getting no signals up to the day before, then flat out bring it up and tell him what you want for a gift and where you'd like to go to celebrate and then make the reservations. Then he has no reason to UM forget. Hey, he's a busy guy!!

Yup, you're right Esther.  I should have dropped all kinds of hints.  Thing is, I'm too bullheaded for my own good and decided to see if he'd remember on his own.  The girls are living on their own and used to tip him off you see.   ;)  Well, he forgot (totally) no card, no nothin'.  I'm pretty much past having my feelings hurt about his insensitivity....um, maybe.  Now if I was a John Deere tractor or one of his beef cattle..... >:(      Buying jewelry always helps.  lol

Kitty, where do you think all those suggestions came from??? After 25 years of marriage, I have learned I have to be blunt if I want something for a special day. I know what you're thinking but somehow it just isn't in them. LOL. I have bought or made the arrangements for my DH to get a really nice used John Deere lawn tractor and a really nice snow blower, a nice trailer to carry the lawn tractor and many other things I know he wanted over the years. We're talking a lot of money in 25 years. Butttt----------anymore if I want anything in particular, I'd better flat out tell him. Or a few times we'd be looking in a jewelery case and I'd say something was pretty. He then asked me if I wanted to get it. I would say, "OK, we'll say it is for my birthday in two months." LOL

We guys tend not to think of those things , especailly as the years pile up.
I was not aware we were having the kids  here for Fathers day!

If I told you how long we have been married, you'd not believe me.
I think Ben Franklin was a wedding guest.
