"Pond Itch" This has to be minor, but boy do I itch! Help!

About a week ago I was working on the skimmer and felt an intense sting on my finger. I looked and was not sure I could see anything at all.  I washed and used peroxide on it and forgot about it Yesterday it began ti itch terribly.  I am trying "Cortizone 10" on it but not sure it's effective.  The finger looks a bit shiny, very slight swelling.
Can this be a pond critter?  Has anyone experienced this?
I know it's a minor thing, but sure a royal pain. >:(-
The kids will be here today for Father's Day too.

I am open to your suggestions.

Benedryl might stop the itching.

Not sure what it could be Jerry, many things actually.  The part about being shiny and swelled, concerns me.  If it's not better by Monday, a visit to the doctor would be a good idea.  Sounds like an infection has set in, and maybe the doc should have a look.  Don't worry or fret~~have a wonderful Father's Day, you deserve it!  O0

It has calmed doen somewhat. Not shiny and swelly now.

I had this about a month ago. It started on my thumb and quickly spread to both hands. I LOVED the scratching, but then they would start to bleed.  It then turned into an ear infection.  The doctor couldn't ever figure out what it was, but I'm convinced it came from my pond, the weekend before I had transplanted and repotted all my pond plants.  I feel for you! It was horrible! I also got it on the souls of my feet (I was wearing flip flops when I was working with the plants.

I have a couple of plants that everytime I get near them...I get itchy patches on my fingers and I'll dig at them till they bleed--one plant that really gets me going is horsetail......but, the pain--that does sound like you were bit by a pond critter...maybe a water spider?

My dr. gave me antibiotics for the ear infection and it seemed to also take care of the itchy hands.  I don't know if it just happened to go away at the same time.  When they would get itchy and I wanted to scratch, I would rub lotion on them instead.  Oh, I forgot, it also spread down my thighs and inner biceps.
