Leak!
« on: June 21, 2009, 01:42:59 PM »
Hello all
Have had a leak in a pond. Found that critters had chewed 3 holes in a vinyl liner. Was in a preform that had a crack in it, and was relinered and reused. What a job! 1st had to figure out where the leak was. Thought , waterfall, most probably. Finally was found in the liner with little critter chews. Anybody else had this happen?

We relined with rubber.

Yep.  Termites are thru my Xavan liner... heron poked holes in 20 ml EDMP liner.  Now the pond is concrete!

omg! even worse than mine!
We cannot do concrete here. It will crack in the winter. So we are hoping. It will last. Have 4 ponds. This is the only one to have a problem. Critters chewed through the vinyl, maybe they will not through the rubber

So sorry, Ponderer.  I hope it was a slow leak, so you could take your time to redo the pond - not have a mad scramble to save fish and all that.

I never heard of animals chewing a liner! A new thing to worry about ... :(.

No ,it was a slow one took DH a couple of weeks to get to the point of checking the liner. It was just below the water line so when we turned off the pump to eliminate the possibilities , it syayed up. There assumed waterfall. Anyhoo it's fixed now
