Ok, so good so far my seed started sprouting today and it seems like it has some kind of two small leaves at this time.
I did not do anything different to the seed besides, putting it in the water and leaveing it there maybe about 2 or 3 days. I think it is more likely to be 3 so make it 3.
Anywho, I placed it in a biggo container where it gets lots of sun, but by today I had to clean the water because it was getting some mosquito larvae in the bottom, anyways the water I had in the container was super hot and so I heard from isaiascrazy it has to be like that, so I changed to water but I placed the sprouted seed into another container due that the water I placed on the biggo container was not going to be not that hot, and so in the small container I placed some of the hot water from the biggo one.
So am I doing things right or what do you think?
Guess I need some help.

This is the small container(yogurth one) where I placed the sprouted seed with the hot water from the biggo container.

And this one is the one of the container where it was firstly placed.

I've attempted to grow lotus from seed.  Continue to change the water every few days.  Now that you can see the stem, it will grow faster.  I got mine to grow about 11 inches from the seed, but that's about it.  It didn't survive after that.  Kind of disappeared.  I wish you luck.

Yep, I know you are the same one and all of that but I was just trying to show them in here and get some different opinions and so make my mind and see what is best for this little seed that some day may be, big and pretty.
Hope it keeps on growing.

I have just finished sprouting around 50-75 lotus seeds. They are now in trays of soil in shallow containers. Changing the water every day is great advice because they will get fungus easily. Also, if you are going to plant them in soil, stick the seed in before the roots form. That will guarantee their survival. :)
Happy ponding,

Another thing is I just went outside and the leaf has already unfolded, yes it's race to the water surface has just started, and seems like another leaf is just coming out from the same place as the other.

Howell, you may call me Scott. Once you get that seed covered, you won't need to change the water. Sorry, I didn't clarify that. I usually plant mine as soon as the root starts forming. I also sprout mine in clear plastic cups so I can see the growth. If you keep the water changed until it starts to produce roots and then plant it in soil and put it in a pond or shallow container, you will be okay. You will need to feed it a little after about a week or two after planting it. I'll try to answer any other questions that you might have. Have you been to Victoria Adventures lotus section yet?
Happy ponding,

Well haven't been to VA lotus section yet, but I guess about to.
I do not think I would love to use a clear plastic cup since the sun here burns almost everything, if I do that I may even end up with lotus seed soup.
As soon as the sun hits the container the water temperature raises up so freaking high.
But what do you think?

That is cool that you are able to start the Lotus from seeds and then grow them in your ponds. I wish I could grow them here where I live but we have cold winters and I don't want to grow them indoors with all the lights and stuff. Would like to see more pictures of them growing and when they bloom. They will be lovely  :) Janice

Howell, can you get a Styrofoam cup? They will insulate from getting to hot. You could put them in a semi shady spot since the temps are so hot. I started mine in the East facing kitchen window. Let's see an updated pic now.

I will show the updated pic tomorrow or maybe the day after tomorrow cuz now I am at the place where I study college and I am not going to the place where I have that seed until the day after tomorrow.
But yeah I placed it in a shady place and the first leaf seems to be looking for the surface and the second one is kinda developing close to the seed.
Thanks scott.
I have styrofoam cups do you want me to switch it?

This is how my lotus seed is looking like,  I just changed the water and its first leaf is getting kinda big well the steam is.
And it shows another small leaf coming along side and another one still developing close to the seed.

They need to be planted in soil to have a good chance of survival once a root system begins to develop.
Roots that grow in water have no resistance and the successive roots are generally weaker.
Those that are used to expanding in soil have a better survival chance than those that have been in water only and then forced to try and adapt.
Just some thought from my own growing experience.

So then timgod you are telling me to plant them on soil pretty much now, and so they will develope a root system on soil instead of developing it in plain water?
Well I know you have so much experience and that is why I asked for help since there are so many experienced people around here.
Thanks BTW.

I am no expert on lotus, Joyce and others know more than I but I basically did what you are doing in the beginning.
My success rate was very low growing them to any size before planting them.
Like Scott said, mine kind of melted away after planting that way.
Those that had just formed filiforms but no real roots and then plant had a very high success rate for me.

Just a thought. If you have quite a few, maybe see what works best for you.

Thanks Timgod.
So then whenever they form filiforms, which I guess are white little things,  kinda like roots formations on the bottom of the leaves, you are telling me to plant right away and so that will be more succesful.
The bad thing here is this is the only seed I've got. lol
And I truly want it to succed.
My mom is so freaking excited when I told her what seed it was, I had to show her pics of what it was though, she was plain, she just had no idea.
But thanks again, and hope I am not bothering.

To clarify what I said about planting. Don't wait for the roots to get to big, you might lose it. As soon as you see the filiform (the root tip) coming out of the seed, stick the seed in soil. This prevents breaking the roots and losing the lotus. I've never made it in time and ended up planting with roots. If it happens to you, Howell, let me know. I'll talk you through planting it.
Happy ponding,

Depending on the lotus and the light. Normally they unfold after the second stem has came up. Sometimes it might take a week or so. What you need is patience. Don't wait for the leaves to unfold. Just watch for roots. If the leaves are not unfolded by the time the filiform shows, plant it anyway. The leaves will unfold after they are planted. You're doing good, Howell. Just be patient. :)

The first leaf stem has been getting so thick and brownish, and the leaf seems to get big too.
I will look for filiforms as you say and now let's be patient. Scott I have not posted any pics yet cuz I was just outside working on the pond because the bio had some leaking and was loosing water fast.
So I was outside fixing it.
Thanks for the help, BTW.
