With my shady yard, pads like this (and your watermelon striped one) may be the only adornment I ever get in my pond. What variety is it? Or is it one of your creations?

They are interesting to look at ;) One of the pondlilie I purchased now has orange and red pads! I name has worn off the tag so I guess I will have to wait for a bloom ::)

Thornygardener , it's one of my seedlings.  It doesn't seem like an early starter or a big bloomer so I will probably destroy it. Don't worry pretty leaves are almost as important to me as the flowers. there will be many more, but with better flowering.

  OK Tim and Ken, I haven't and I won't.

I keep it around for my own enjoyment and as a standard for improving on.

It does have a nice flower that doesn't fade and controlled growth with moderate leaf density. If it bloomed like Texas Dawn it would be a real winner.

Also the leaves lose their color for the most part in mid summer here and become a more normal mottled green.

The idea in my mind is a leaf like Yellow watermelon, but with splotches of rainbow colors that don't fade, in between the light colored leaf vein patterns like Yellow watermelon has.

That pic is a little dark. Apparently I didn't fill light that one before I imported it into my down sized and fill lighted photos folder for posting.  This is a good time to show how I under expose my pics and fill light them with Picasa.  This is the underexposed pic and pic two is fill lighted, to my eyes idea of accurate, to the naked eye.

Mike, if you hear what sounds like flippers going through your yard toward your lily ponds, it's just me in a scuba suit with my trusty metal spade. ;D

Hey Bonnie.  Do you remember that yellow- pink flower that you liked in one of my test beds that was very big with a cone or cup shaped flower.  The one that I said that I didn't really like because I am not a fan of flowers that don't open all the way and that every flower is cup shaped twice a day anyway ?   Well I decided to keep it for a while at least, because it probably is the heaviest flower I have and I think it makes seed and it flowers late and well.

It's leafy and spreads pretty fast but it might be good for crossing for size.
