Is this Foxfire?
« on: July 19, 2009, 11:19:54 AM »
I originally got 5 lilies from a well known aficionado who got them from Craig.  He gave me the names he thought they were but I'm not sure he got it right as they weren't blooming.  Two died, the nightbloomer and one other.   :'(

Here are some pics of the one that he said was Foxfire.  I wonder though as the petals do not look as blue as the ones I see in pictures.  Could that be the high PH of the pond?  or something else?

I included pics of both sides of the pads, I hope that helps.

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

The other possibility would be Pink Capensis.  I'm going to go and look at that one on the IWGS site.

Nope, the pads are wrong for that one.  Maybe Craig will recognize it.

Could it be Manassas?

It does look like Manassus.  http://www.watergardenersinternational.org/checklist/manassas/form.htm  It's one of Craig's lilies which this should be, it has the same colors on the pads and the pads are more oval than round and have a slight texture on some of them.   It really looks like it.  Now I just need Craig to come by and let me know if Manassus is one that he shipped down here.    Thanks, good eye!

Hi Jonna,

Between taking a few days to chase the wild and wily Sus scrofa and the a trip to visit various gardens in Miami, I'm late getting in on this one, but no, it is not 'Foxfire' and it is not 'Manassas'.  Our friend in Merida also ordered a bunch of unnamed lilies and that is what the pink is....'Unnamed Pink'.<g>

I'll attach a picture of 'Manassas'.

Thanks Craig, unnamed Pink is just fine.  I'm waiting for the 3 rd one to bloom, hope that it really is Director Moore, I'll send you pics.
