That is a beauty.  I read how you got it from Argentina, very clever.  I am interested in how you divide them, I am afraid to divide my lilies because I can't see a clear line or pups.  I really don't want to kill them.

Trading down here is more complicated you guys, you can't just order anything on the internet because most of the sites only ship in the US and if they do ship out of the country the duty is horrific.  So, sometimes things arrive in a letter and often from a lot farther away than the US.  It is winter in Argentina now and their lilies are hibernating so they are easier to send.   Seeds come that way as well.  I know, it's not really kosher but it is also fairly common in most of the world.  This lily was a huge deal when it arrived alive, Robie has grown it from a slip and managed to divide it and share it with a number of ponders in Mexico.  Ponders that would never get this lily or any named lily easily.  He's wizard, and a really good guy that likes to share.

Not only not allowed to mail them from the US to Mexico but not allowed to mail them within Mexico either!  It's a bummer.

Hola Robie,

I found this forum a couple of days ago and decided to join to see what North American ponders talk about.

I never imagined some posts would be about my babies.

Saludos, Daniel (BigDan, to suit the forum's language...)
Daniel

Oye! Daniel!  How good to see you here.  I also have one of your babies that I got from the Merida ponders.  It has bloomed in my Betta bowl and now it is in the big pond.  I'll look for a picture for you.  Thank you.

Hey Jonna, that means you're now a member of Daniel's Travelling Waterlilies Club.

Membership can't be refused once you get one of my babies (or their offspring) and you have but one obligation "multiply and give to others in need"

Congrats!
Daniel

I'm doing my part, I have about 5 babies growing in my pond that will go to whomever Neo and Robie decide should get them.  I've seen you on El Estanque, I do my best to read it but writing in Spanish is much harder.  Actually, reading is hard too especially with all the slang and abbreviations.  I try though.

So far, this year's spring has been is kinda strange. Temps in the mid 80s one day and in the lower 70s the other are confusing the lilies that don't know what to do...

Up to now, I've had only one bloom from a yellow hardy (name unknown).

At least a couple more blooms from the same plant are comming, as well as one from N. 'Mayla' and one from N. 'Marliacea Rosea'. As soon as I have those I´ll post pictures.

Meanwhile, what about irises...
Bellvue's Michelle

Margaret Hunter

... or orchids?

Enjoy!

Hi BigDan, my opinion is that your unnamed yellow is   Joey Tomocik.  I have a bed of them and I know the flower well. I will post some pics for you to compare to your plant.

Funny...

The person that gave me the plant mentioned that it might be a N. 'Joey Tomocik', but he wasn't sure.
Slocum's book (Waterlilies and Lotuses) indicates that the top of the leaves should be plain green, never mentioning any speckles (except for the underside of the leave)

Do these pads look like the ones of your plant?

BigDan,   Usually I can remember what a plants leaves should look like but right now It slips my mind what Joey's leaves look like. I still have a lot of leaves and I will report back later what my findings are and I will take some pics to show you.

My faulty memory tells me that your pics seem right and that the leaves start out with some slight blotching on the upper surface that fades with age and specks of red on the underside.
Leaf coloration varies quite a bit with growing conditions especially the top surface.  Sulphurea sometimes has dark green leaves with a lot of very dark blotching.  Other times the leaves are lighter green with faded blotching.
