I made my first purchase of a water lily 10+ years ago before I had established a network of resources and I paid way too much for a common hardy lily.  If I recall correctly it was Attraction.  I paid around $35 at one of our local pond supply places in Upland.  That was my first and last purchase from them....

With the help of a great friend from this forum, I purchased N. William McLane for the hefty price of over $150.00 Canadian including shipping. It died shortly after arriving but I did get seed from it. Some of my early hybrids have that DNA in them. I paid again to have Wm. McLane sent to me and once again, failure. So total, for the same lily I have paid over $300.00 Canadian to have it and it never flourished for me.

Cheers,
Sean

This was my first year ponding and since I didn't know anything about anything I paid $49.00 for a hardy lilly at a nursery that sells pond plants.  I don't even know what kind it is  :-\

Pre AP I purchased my first real lily from Lawanna, a Queen of Siam.  I think it was about $10 and has survived for about 10 years.  I purchased my first lilies, hardies, at HD at the throw away price of $3 each.  A yellow and a white.  Still have them too.

We have been lucky as the first lilies I actually purchased were here on this forum.
After waiting all winter and drooling over lilies in catalogs and on-line stores,
it was really refreshing to pay members here their asking prices
which were so far below what the garden centers around here ask that I am beyond grateful

The most I've paid for one lily is $30 for Pink Sunrise.

A local nursery carrys it and all their lilies are planted in hanging basket pots and they are priced at $45. I had seen one of the Pink Sunrises
blooming one day and really wanted one but couldn't really spring for it at $45. I hadn't seen other forum members offer it so I figured I would
eventually have to save up for it. One day I went by the nursery to pick up something else and they had divided the main plants and had a tub
of small baby ones setting there for $30. I decided I could live with that since it was such a pretty lily. I haven't beens sorry either, its probably my favorite lily.

Hi. I paid $50 each for two corms, one was Jack Wood and the other was Celon Pink. That was several years ago. Have learned since then.  ;D

Still waiting for my expensive (around $50+) hardy to bloom.  I made the mistake of lowering it too much & it is unhappy with me again  :(

My first water lily was a Chromatella but it was free. The first one that I ever bought was less than $10.00 and from Wal-Mart.
Happy ponding,

I spent $60 for Ampla. It did not bloom last summer but made 2 tubers. And neither tuber sprouted this year.

about $20 for a Green Smoke...I was impatient and wanted one NOW...a  couple weeks later I saw a forum member list one for a lot less, oh well.  I am still happy with my plant (still waiting for it to bloom though, was set back a little from shipping in the Florida heat) and it was blooming size.

My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

I believe I paid around $25 for Helvola locally, twice, before I joined the previous version of this forum.
