A surprise nightbloomer
« on: July 31, 2009, 09:33:16 PM »
Didn't know I had this one.  Got it as a mystery tuber 2 years ago, and here she is blooming.  Think the super warm water in the fish tank got her going.  I teased dh if he din't get the tank set up, I was going to stick a lily in it.  I did and look what happened.  Its now in the pond.

Funny thing is, I went out yesterday morning and saw a white bud opening.  I waited about and hour and went out in hopes it would be open all the way.  No, it was closed tight.  I stopped and said that's weird.  Then it clicked that it must be a night bloomer, sure enough it was.  Has another bud on the way too.

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

Ty, I'm ready for the next bud to reach the surface.  So it will stand up, I so wanted a good shot of this one.  Having to relocate it made it lay over.  OH well.

White nightbloomers are so nice.  It is difficult to enjoy them if you're an early bird.  Maybe if you wake up at 3 A.M.?

This one started opening at about 10 pm, and was still open at 11 am today.

I've only seen mine at night once. I went out to cover the turtles back up and back where the pond is is pitch black at night. My big 6V flashlight hit the bloom and I thought that it would light up the whole pond area. :)
Happy ponding,

That is beautiful. Night bloomers have gorgeous blooms. They are usually open until a 3 or 4 hours after daylight. I have a Texas Shell Pink blooming currently and it is still open after 9 am.

Sometimes my night bloomers stay open until 10 or 11am. Anyway when I go outside at 8am they are open for me to see.
Congrats on your beautiful night blooming lily.

That's great to know!  I'm getting some nightbloomers from Kat so I'll be able to see them as I scurry off to work in the morning!   @O@
