Colchicine? Perish the thought! Call me crazy, but as much as I like my lilies, I have this thing about needlessly handling know carcinogens, be it for preventing fungus on tubers or causing 'mitosis interruptus'. There are much smarter, safer ways. Boy, hope that doesn't come off sounding like a 'know it all'<g>
I am working on tetraploids, but the agent involved is much, much less toxic than colchicine, and yet has the same action. Problem is coming up with a proper concentration. I've tried the published rates and man have I killed some seedlings this year!<g> Gonna cut the strength and try again this week, but I have no plans to try it on Anecphya, there chromosome number is already in the stratosphere....maybe 228? But then again...what the hey, might not be a bad idea.<g>
