Well not just this forum but any of the internet forums. I have the awfulest times remembering the real names of people. It's hard enough to remember the made up names but then to attach real names to them, I just can't do it for 1300 people. Then folks often don't put their location on their profile and then on top of not remembering what BoogieWoogie's real name is, I can't remember what state they're in. I have never figured out what the deal was with those wierd names. Then some people have those wierd names and on the signature line it says, "Suzie". Can somebody explain it to me?

All I can say is when I registered years ago it said 'Cathy' was already being used.......don't know that I've seen a 'C' Cathy on here for a looooong time. So I just came up with a name from my favorite hobby....livetogarden. Sorry we frazzle you, Esther.

I can't remember anyone's real names either. Don't feel bad. I don't use my real name and I usually wait until I'm comfortable in a forum before I say where I live.

My real name is Holly, my grandmother always called me holly dolly, so I shortened it to Holldoll. It's the name I use on every forum.

Some time ago, I started keeping a written list of people's real names, and any other info, like family, pets, city or state. Whenever anyone let slip any piece of true info, I updated my list.

Unfortunately, that list is buried under piles of paper on my computer desk, and so I no longer can access it to recall people's real names, occupations, cities, etc.

Was a good idea, but it fell victim to my sloppy filing system.

Everyone is different. Some people don't like to post their real name for privacy reasons.
Or where they live.
I respect that after several incidents of being the target of psychotic hateful hipocrits.

I spend most of my time in NC, but you never know when I will show up in your area, so watch out!

I am actually careful not to use any more information than is in a person's profile, even if I know. There is a reason it is not there, and I would not reveal anything someone told me in private. An example is when I buy something from someone on a forum, I usually will find out their name (paypal or other correspondence), but I will not use it on a public forum unless I have seen them use it before. That said, I am Steve, but don't worry, you will not hurt my feelings if you don't remember! Everyone as a small circle of close friends, even here-just remember those and you are doing great!!!

Ok, I understand not wanting to use your last name and full address. Nobody is asking for that I just wondered why the silly names on the profile and then the real first name on the signature. Then there is no location listed, not even a zone. Noone was saying anyone should post addresses or even the city. Joe who lives in Los Angeles is going to be hard to locate if I wanted to physically find him.

I also have a notebook with a huge list of people that I have exchanged plants and embroidery with and usually put their username with it. I know Joyce has one too as I just received a gift from her and hadn't given her my info lately.

One time she was able to use that info to get help for a forum member whose husband was abusing her and she was fearing for her life. Remember that?

Totally forgot about that!

But I do understand what you're saying.
Especially when they ask for garden advice.
No zone, no state, no nothing.
They don't give me any info, I won't give them any info.
I just don't respond any more.

I don't really have a notebook. I have an address book with large spaces for each entry.
If I can, I peel the return address labels off the envelope or box,
like I did with you Esther, and stick them in there with tiny pencilled notes if necessary.
Used to keep a journal but threw it out accidentally during the move.
The address book is a lot easier to deal with and look up people.
The journal was just a jumble of info.

I have never given out my location. Such a small community everybody knows everybody here.

I used to hang out in a seniors chatroom years ago. I said I lived ____ miles north of Amarillo. I immediately got a PM from a member telling me what community I lived in. He is a long haul trucker up and down these roads. Another time a lady PM'ed me that her daughter had just taken a teaching job at our rural school...yep she had.

So I usually just say the Texas panhandle...that is close enough.

Sue, sure it's fine to say your state as long as the panhandle has the same zone at the north side of the state. Grief, Texas is like a country so I bet there are different zones there. My complaint wasn't so much about not listing the state as it was the zone and certainly I don't want your address mentioned on a forum. If someone asks a question about something that the answer is affected by the zone and I answer from Michigan, to you in Texas, it just ain't gonna work. Your drought loving plant isn't going to like being treated like some hardy thing from Michigan.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I remember Michigan.........we lived there for 2 yrs

. It was so fricken cold there in the winter you couldn't even go outside for a walk in the beautiful snow

. Then it got so dang hot in the summer and humid I think I shrank 2 sizes

. Shoveled the snow out of the driveway (we were not accustomed w/ how these things are done there) in the evening and by morning the snowplow had it all right back where it was

. Spring and fall are wonderful tho
