Random Non-Lily Pics
« on: August 22, 2009, 02:05:09 PM »
A few pictures from today.  The first is a Sulfur butterfly I noticed getting itself ship-shape for flight shortly after it emerged from its cocoon.

Then...a few of my favorite marginals and favorite largely because they bloom like crazy even during the dog days of August.  First is Sky Flower, then Crinum 'Menehune' ( a dwarf Crinum) and lastly, the old stand-by Ruby Eye Sag.

Beautiful! I remember the Menehune from when I lived in Hawaii. They were one of my favorite flowers there.

Beautiful. Love the butterfly. Never saw anything like that in Michigan. LOL. The flowes are wonderful too. I wish they could just stay like that for months.

Watching a butterfly hatch is a really great experience. :)

Can you post photos of your haflinger? goats? How is your herd doing?

Hi Lawanna,

The first flower is Sky Flower ( Hydrolea corymbosa) it is native to FL and then along the Gulf Coast if I remember rightly.

Sunbeam....Much as they are 'pond pests' they don't really fit under pond chat,so I'll post some pics under photo album shortly...first I need to go feed the beasts.<g>

Was gonna post more non-lily pics, but the lily shots came out better, so the others will have to wait for a reshoot.  Oh....and keeping with the Kafkaesque theme....there is another picture of a metamorphosis.<g>

OMG, that first lily.   o(:-)  I am getting in my car this afternoon, should be there by about 3:00 in the morning.  Call me on my cell to give me directions-I have got to have it!!!   lol

Seriously, if that one is on the market, I would buy it in the middle of the winter and nurse it under an electric blanket til spring to get one bloom like that!  Who has it, or am I going to have to fight the Haflingers for it?   {nono}

Sorry Steve, but very seldom is anything I show on the market...and that includes 'your' lily.  The good news is I am up to two of them now...maybe three.<g>  Mostly the pictures are just stuff I have in the ponds, rather than showing the commonly available stuff.

And that goes for todays pictures as well.<g>  So you see 'two' isn't a bad thing...that lily is from earlier this year.  The last picture is a lily I happen to like and I just got two of it this summer as well...the difference is, I have had that one since 2003.<g>

Ok, now those last 4 you posted are just really gorgeous.  That deep blue one is just . . . .

I need a bigger pond and fewer trees . . .

Craig:

About every six months I am going to ask you about that lily in your second post, 8314.jpg.   @O@  Hope I get on your nerves enough to get you to ask for my UPS number!!!   O0  Are the leaves on the plant the mottled or the solid green ones?  And what are your criteria for plants you release?   {:-P;;

And if you didn't know, that third one you may have would look great in my pond!!!   o(:-)

Giving credit where credit is due, the third one in the last batch...the dark blue...is by Charles Winch and named 'Dean Edwards'.  His daughter Noelene sent me a number of tubers for it, so the dark blue is actually on the horizon.

What I release is largely subjective, but my tastes run to pastel and moptops, still working on the pastel moptop.<g>  You're probably be better off Steve, if I decide not to pursue the lily you like because then it goes as an unnamed seedling.  I'll be in NC in a couple weeks....think I can decide by then?<g>

And as much as I appreciate the comments, me and retail just ain't in the cards!  I do not have the pleasant temperament that retail requires.  I mean, since I am always right, how is it possible then that the customer can never be wrong?  Unless of course, I cater to only discerning customers that always see things my way.<g>

OK, Kat, let me try...

Craig, I agree with everything you said, say and will say. You are a lily God (not a religious reference, admins!). No customer is good enough for you but Kat and I will be your humble servants and beta testers IF YOU WILL JUST SELL ME THAT LILY!

How did I do, Kat?  Bet you never begged like that!

Steve (you know, the one who always has room for one more lily, right Kat?)

Lol....what I am is someone that has maybe more lilies and more time to play with them than the average bear, but that is it....I ascribe everything I have gotten to a healthy dose of pure S.L. and nothing more.

Back on subject....someone mentioned Hibiscus on another thread and it reminded me to check mine for seed.  While doing that I noticed a few are still managing a bloom, but since the white coccineus appears to be done for the season, I substituted a picture of Stevia.  No, it is not particularly a pretty bloom, but it is tasty to chew on.<g>

Kat, you were right, grovelling has no effect on him.   :'(  Guess you will have to feed my addiction, with a little help from Matherfish!!!   lol

I just can't quit looking at that lily, though!  Always want what you can't have... >:(-

I can't believe you are still getting hibiscus blooms . . . my red star is still blooming but mostly done, the pink and white got damaged in the spring and haven't done a thing, the carolina red is still blooming occasionally and the yellow is still alive but showing no signs of blooming.
