If you look close at the 2nd pic you will see the spent bloom from earlier in the week.
To the right is the current 1st day flower closing up.
In the center is a 3rd bud that will probably be up in the next day or so.

Also if you look at the 1st pic, you will see it had already started to change color.
Notice the rosy color vs. the pure white from last night's shot.

So, Timgod, what do you have your Longwood in? Is it a stock tank? I take it that it is white the first night and pink the second, right? How hard was it to grow? Harder than V. cruziana or do you know? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just thinking of trying Longwood next year instead of V. cruziana again. And again, if I get seed from the cruziana, I may do one of each. I need a job so I can buy more stock tanks. :)
Happy ponding,
Scott o(

It is an 8 foot pool.
I am bonsaiing it but feeding it heavily to get the blooms.
The biggest pads have been right at 4 feet.

Yes to white then a rose color the 2nd night.
Longwood is more robust than either parent... amazonica or cruziana.
It is also a bit more forgiving of conditions once it is past the juvenile stage.
I got to go to bed. I am gonna try and get up in about 5 hours to get a few 2nd day shots before I go to work if it has not closed up already.

G'Night

Timgod, what size pot did you use? I used a 5-gallon (I first thought it was 3-gallon) pot and my pads have only gotten as big as 28" and it's now blooming. It has three buds and one just came out of the water today. It has four pads with a fifth one just reaching the surface today. Two of the pads were slightly damaged when we moved it to the hot tub and now caterpillars are munching on them. :(

Here's the pic of the buds. The same as I posted on my post.

Happy ponding,
Scott o(

Scott, The one you have been seeing bloom is in a big lotus pot about 18" across by 6" tall.
I have another getting ready to bloom with three buds in a 1.5 gallon roughly.
A third bloom should be fully open now on the first plant... getting ready to go outside and check.
Joyce, Josh, bunny and Howell, thanks for the kind words.

Scott, what is your fertilizing schedule & amount like?  Vics are heavy feeders, especially if you want them to reach their potential.  Also of interest is that the pad size usually does not increase once they start blooming.  Some growers actually remove the buds, so the pads will continue to grow.  Once the pads are up to the desired size, then the plant is allowed to bloom.

Josh, since it started blooming, I started feeding her three Jobes Plant Spikes every Sunday. I was doing this one as bonsai since I didn't have the room for a full size Victoria.

Tim, I think my pot is 18x8". I'll try to get a measure tomorrow.
Happy ponding,

How exciting for both of you. My 50*F nights suck. My Vic is in a thermoplanter or else it would have been toast. I hope I get to see it bloom, I will be disappointed if I don't.

Seriously! We got one week of summer. Now it's fall.

I think the Chicago Botanic Garden was dis budding, their pads were absolutely huge last year. Haven't seen this years growth though.

I hope you're enjoying the fragrance.

Thanks Louis and Maryvonne.
My first plant looks like it will bloom tonight or tomorrow.
My third which got started about 6 weeks later now has two buds down in the cradle. ( my term as they are like babies at that point).
One of my Euryale Ferox had 2 flowers and 2 buds on it yesterday.
